It is increased by spending Honor, in increments of 10 (so the first increase is from 20 to 30), and the cost is always 91,117.99 Honor.
At least 151 Trust has been unlocked, though Probe Trust of 20 is enough to cover the universe and finish the game.

Probe Trust of 40 (1,890,772 total Yomi) has shown to be enough to finish the game (though it will be a little bit faster on 43-45).
